Our gorgeous leading ladies have enticed us many a times with their lip gestures. While they may not have the perfect pout like Angelina Jolie, they are in no way less sexy than hers. Here is our list of top contenders for the title of having the best lips in Bollywood. Take a peak and reply to the poll below as to who according to you should win this title.

Priyanka Chopra

After her alleged lip surgery, they look fuller and more prominent. While they have been criticised by some, many still prefer her this way and her matt red lipsticks enhance them further.

Kareena Kapoor

She won many hearts and fans with her luscious looking lips. Even in films where she was sans make-up, her rosy lips garnered a lot of attention.

Nargis Fakhri

Whether or not her pout is sexy has been a debatable topic right from her debut in Rockstar. While some think it is too much referencing them to be like Donald Duck’s, many still agree that she has the hottest lips in B-town.

Katrina Kaif

When everything about her is perfect, how can we leave her out of this poll? But many might disagree with us as too much perfection spoils the fun at times.

Deepika Padukone

Her dimpled, cheeky smile can melt many hearts and her lips are surely to blame for it.

Mallika Sherawat

Right from her first film, she went on a kissing spree which makes her lips desirable for many and the mole on top just completes the look.

Aishwarya Rai

Many may say that her eyes are her best feature but her lips are not far behind in the ranking. Her kissing scene in Dhoom 2 with Hrithik was one of the highlights of the film.

Bipasha Basu

She’s sexy and she knows it. Miss Basu has always raised eyebrows with her bold avatar and her sultry lips have enticed many.

Vidya Balan

Her fans will remember her biting her lips seductively in The Dirty Picture and it made her quite popular after she charmed us with them in the Ooh la la number.

Chitrangada Singh

Another Miss Perfect of the industry, Chitrangada hardly gets anything wrong when it comes to looks and her lips are just as sexy as her body.

Madhuri Dixit

Every feature of her face is expressive, right from her eyes, her smile and even her lips which sync in perfection with her songs just like her body.

Rekha

Her love for dark lipsticks and the black mole next to her lips make them seductive and pouty. No wonder she can compete with all these young guns even today.

Priyanka Chopra will be essaying the role of world boxing champion Mary Kom in a biopic being made on her, directed by Omung Kumar. She has now begun training for the same. Playing a boxer will require her to have a very tough-looking body and she will also have to shoot many ring sequences for the film. The team has roped in Rob Miller of Chak de! India fame for this purpose. He was the sports action director of that film and will now work with PeeCee to make the ring sequences look as authentic as possible.

To make her body look as similar as possible to the inspiration of the film, Mary Kom, Sameer Johal has already started training Priyanka for it. He has trained Farhan Akhtar too for his upcoming film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and has done a spectacular job on his physique.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is leaving no stone unturned to make his venture look as close to the real life of the boxer. He asked Priyanka to meet Mary Kom and get to know her in order to be able to get under the skin of the character.

It certainly won’t be a cakewalk for PeeCee as Mary is a world champion and trains hard every day. Her day starts with a 14 km run which is followed by some stretching and then practising shadow boxing in the ring. After resting in the afternoon, Kom spends her evenings in the gym doing push-ups, sit-ups and strength training before moving back to the boxing ring again. She pays prime attention to her brain-eye coordination and stamina as these most vital for a boxer. After such a strenuous session, she cools off with a short run.

We wish Priyanka luck in her endeavour to play Mary Kom and do complete justice to her part.

A well-defined waist is a major turn on and perhaps the most difficult area to work on. Apart from working out hard in the gym, you also need to eat right to get those sexy curves. But once you have them, you can flaunt them in any apparel – saree, tank tops, evening dress, etc.

So instead of hiding those love handles under baggy T-shirts and loose tops, try these exercises to get a fab, curvy waist that you can flaunt. The following exercises will help you achieve your dream waist.

Side bends

Seated torso rotation

Side crunches

These Bollywood actresses have the sexiest mid-riffs in B-town but who is the winner amongst them is for you to decide. Vote for your favourite actress who according to you has the most desirable waist.

A group of special children walked to create awareness about autistic children and highlight that their abilities can be channelized in a productive manner. The walk was to increase awareness about the increasing number of children being diagnosed for autism every year and dearth of schools catering to children suffering from the syndrome.

The initiative was taken by the ‘AttachAvi Foundation’ and ‘The Hans Foundation.’ It was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. ‘We all have deficiencies in us. We forget to accept them at times. It will be an honour for me to work for such a noble cause,’ Dikshit said.

Autism is a group of complex disorders of brain development that presents with varying degrees of impairment in social interaction, communication with others and repetitive behavioral patterns. It occurs in all racial, ethnic and social groups and is four times more common in boys than girls. It is a spectrum disorder which means it manifests with a varying degree of severity and in different ways in different individuals. The symptoms are varied and children may be mildly affected or have severe disability.

Each and every parent desires to have a healthy growing child. Unfortunately there is increasing incidence of certain neurological disorders in children in the last decade. Autism is one of the important problems among these. The prevalence of Autistic spectrum disorder in 1980 was around 1 in 10000. The same prevalence is now estimated to be 1 in 200! It is the fastest growing developmental disability in the world. Approximately 67 million people worldwide are now affected by autism.

So what is autism? It is a group of complex disorders of brain development that presents with varying degrees of impairment in social interaction, communication with others and repetitive behavioral patterns. It occurs in all racial, ethnic and social groups and is four times more common in boys than girls. It is a spectrum disorder which means it manifests with a varying degree of severity and in different ways in different individuals. The symptoms are varied and children may be mildly affected or have severe disability. In recent years, even Bollywood has realized the importance of autism and how common it is. Shahrukh Khan’s character in ‘My name is Khan’ and Priyanka Chopra’s character in ‘Barfi’ were both shown to be affected with autism. Interestingly, both have been shown to have different forms of autism.

Read: Understanding autism – its causes, symptoms and treatment

The disruption in normal brain development in autism is known to happen very early in life. There are multiple factors involved in being responsible as causative factors and genetics also plays a role. Autism can be diagnosed in many cases by 3 years of age by the subtle and not so subtle symptoms. Unfortunately in India the mean age of diagnosis is around 5 years of age! Early diagnosis ensures that corrective therapies can be instituted early.

Here is a list of some of the early symptoms that all parents should watch out for in their child-

No big smiles or joyful expressions by 6 months or thereafter

No response when child’s name is called by 10 months

Does not babble or coo by 12 months

Does not gesture (point, wave, show) by 12 months

Does not say single words by 16 months

Does not say two-word phrases on his or her own by 24 months

Has any loss of any language or social skill at any age

The presence of any of the above symptoms should prompt parents to get a developmental assessment of their child to determine if their child’s development is normal or not. Research has shown that early diagnosis and early institution of corrective therapies does improve the long term outcome in autism. And as we know ‘Time and tide wait for no man!’ Hence it is imperative that action is taken if any of the abnormal symptoms mentioned above are seen.

The month of April is celebrated worldwide as Autism Awareness month with 2nd April being Autism awareness day. To increase awareness about this condition MGM hospital, Vashi and Forum for Autism, Parent support group are planning a ‘Walk for Autism awareness’ on Sunday 14th April at 4.30 pm from MGM hospital to Shivaji Chowk in Vashi. I would like to invite all members of the public, especially all parents to participate in this awareness program to help spread awareness of this condition so that we can help the children affected by autism to integrate well in society.

These beauties rule Bollywood and our hearts and truly deserve a round of applause for their constant endeavours to try something new with their movies and their style. They have emerged as the top 10 Bollywood beauty icons of the nation (in no particular order).

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The eternal beauty icon and a favourite of millions, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is considered to be among the most beautiful women in the world. Her enigmatic eyes and smile have stolen the hearts of many and she broke many of them when she got married to Abhishek Bachchan in 2007. Her comeback film after her pregnancy is highly anticipated by her fans and the film industry.

Chitrangada Singh

One of the hottest-looking actresses in B-town, Chitrangada made her debut with Hazaaron khwaieshen aisi in 2005. Her performance was lauded by greats like Shekhar Kapur who said she had outdone Smita Patel. She also won praises in Washinton Post for her performance. After a three-year hiatus, Chitrangada was back in the scene with Sorry Bhai! The film did not fare well but Chitrangada got many endorsement deals. Her item song in Joker was a hit with the audience.

Deepika Padukone

She epitomises the young, modern Indian woman and her giggly laughter is certainly infectious. In her debut film Om shaati om, she played a yesteryear superstar in the first half and a modern, carefree girl in the second, both with equal élan. She has always been in the news for her style statement or link-ups but Deepika’s confidence hardly wavers. This dusky bombshell has made her way to the top, both as a sought-after actress and a beauty and style icon.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

The media has followed Kareena’s style ever since her debut in Bollywood. Be it her size-zero figure, her attire at award functions or her beauty secrets. Kareena was one the few actresses who took the bold decision to appear onscreen sans any makeup in her film Dev. Probably because she knows she is naturally beautiful and does not have to depend on too many cosmetics to enhance her beauty.

Katrina Kaif

A treat to watch is what most will describe Katrina as. Looking perfect almost always, she carries off any look effortlessly. Be it playing an NRI, raunchy Sheila or the rustic Chameli, Katrina gets it right all the time. Her acting abilities are questioned repeatedly, yet she is one of the top actresses we have today in Bollywood. Her charm never fails to get the audience’s attention.

Madhuri Dixit Nene

Her smile can melt hearts, her dance can enchant anyone, and her acting can blow your mind. What else does one need to become one of the reigning queens of Bollywood? She left the industry and her fans in a state of shock and sadness when she decided to move to the US after marriage. But her recent comeback has once again rejoiced her fans who just don’t seem to get enough of their favourite beauty icon, Madhuri.

Priyanka Chopra

She can dance, she can sing, she can act and she is good at all of it! Her looks are smouldering and she can throw kicks and punches as convincingly as she can romance and cry on screen. Priyanka is a master of many trades. She started out as a teenager and conquered the world with her beauty by winning the Miss World title in 2000. Now an established actress, she is one of the few who can act as well as look glamorous at the same time.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam is undoubtedly Bollywood’s style icon. She is more in the news for her clothes and accessories than her films. Her quirky yet classy fashion sense is a breath of fresh air which has impressed many girls to follow her stylish footsteps. Once weighing over 80 kg, Sonam managed to shed all the extra pounds and fit into her fabulous designer dresses that she now flaunts with much poise.

Sushmita Sen

She shot to fame when she beat Aishwarya at the Miss India Pageant and went on to pick up the Miss Universe Crown in 1997. She wowed us with her sexy sarees in Main hoon na and stole our hearts with her dance number Mehboob mere in Fiza. Sushmita is truly a self-made woman and her beauty has charmed many. She is hardly seen in any movies these days but her fan following hasn’t decreased nonetheless. Her Bong-looks still have their magic!

Vidya Balan

The versatile Mrs Balan captured our attention from her very first film Parineeta. Her traditional attire and big brown eyes spoke volumes through the poster. She broke moulds by not following the trend of attaining the perfect figure, rather took pride in embracing her curvaceous body and inspired many Indian women to do the same. She proved her mettle as an actor through her versatile roles in Paa, Kahani and The Dirty Picture for which she won various awards.

People who suffer from mental disorders or mental illness are an integral part of our society. They are called by many names – mentally challenged, ‘special’, differently abled and a variety of other names – some of them demeaning. Though known more for its mainstream image, Bollywood has over the years seen many actors playing characters who suffered from mental illnesses. On World Mental Health Day we shed light on some of the more common mental diseases portrayed by B-town characters:

AUTISM (Barfi!) :

The recent blockbuster Barfi! saw Priyanka Chopra as a young girl suffering from Autism. Autism affects about 1-2 people per 1,000. It is a disorder of neural development and is usually first noticed in children from the age of three. It is characterized by impaired social interaction, communication and restricted repetitive behaviour.

How autism functions is by altering the way the child processes the information he/she receives. This is usually a mismatch of the nerve cells and synapses and how they are organized. It is a part of the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). The factors that cause this disorder are not yet known but can be associated with some birth defects.

This condition has seen a rise in the past few years, mainly thought to be due to the fact that diagnostic techniques are improving, helping more children to be correctly diagnosed.

Early indicators of the disorder are:

The baby does not start to babble or point by the time they are one year old

No single words by 16 months (for ex: mamma, daddy etc.) or two word phrases by age 2

Does not respond to his/her name

Loss of language and failure to mix with people

Poor eye contact

Repetitive and compulsive lining up of toys of other objects

He/she does not smile or have social contact

Indicators later in life:

Impaired ability to interact with peers

Absence of imaginative or social play

Repetitive or unusual use of language

Preoccupation with certain objects or things.

Inflexibility and adhering to a fixed routine or ritual

Asperger’s Syndrome (My Name Is Khan)

In the movie ‘My name is Khan’ Shahrukh Khan was a man afflicted with Asperger’s syndrome. He received wide acclaim for his accurate portrayal of the character, and is said to have done a lot of research on the topic.

Asperger syndrome (AS), also known as Asperger’s syndrome or Asperger disorder, can be classified as an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This condition is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour and interests. Unlike other autism spectrum disorders patients suffering from this disorder show a better development of linguistic and cognitive development. A common symptom seen in people with Asperger’s syndrome is clumsiness, unusual use of language and trouble handling social situations.

Alzheimer’s (Black and U me Aur Hum)

In the movies ‘U me aur hum’ and ‘Black’, Ajay Devgan and Amitabh Bachchan portray men suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Although the movies discussed the character in detail the condition was not the central theme of the movie. None the less, Alzheimer’s got the much needed limelight.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia. There is no cure for the disease, which worsens as it progresses, and eventually leads to death. The cause and progression of Alzheimer’s disease are not well understood but research indicates that the disease is associated with plaques and tangles in the brain. Although the condition progresses differently for different patients there are some common symptoms. Usually some early symptoms are mistakenly termed as ‘age-related’ or due to stress, but the most glaring indicator is difficulty in remembering recent events. The common tests for the condition are to evaluate behaviour and thinking abilities and a brain scan. As the condition progresses the patient exhibits symptoms such as confusion, irritability, aggression, mood swings, trouble speaking and long term memory loss.

Bipolar Disorder (Heroine)

The recent movie Heroine also had leading lady Kareena Kapoor suffer from Bipolar disorder. Although this movie does not focus on her illness and more on how the illness caused the downfall of her career, it still helped in bringing the condition and its management to the forefront. Let’s find out what Bipolar disorder actually is.

Bipolar disorder or bipolar affective disorder also called manic-depressive disorder. It is a mood disorder, and people usually experience disruptive mood swings that range from a frenzied state known as mania to depression. These extreme mood swings are separated by a ‘normal phase’ as well. Although in some individuals, depression and mania may rapidly alternate, which is known as rapid cycling. Severe manic episodes can sometimes lead to such psychotic symptoms as delusions and hallucinations. The prevalence of this condition is the same in men and women, and across all ethnic groups.

Schizophrenia (Tere Naam)

Actor Salman Khan did one of his most widely acclaimed roles in the movie ‘Tere Naam’. In the movie he essayed the role of a schizophrenic. His interpretation of the condition was accurate, but not all schizophrenics have to be in an asylum!

Schizophrenia is a condition that affects the patient by young adulthood and continues till old age, in almost all cases. It is a mental disorder that is characterized by breakdown of thoughts and poor social responsiveness. People with schizophrenia are likely to have additional conditions, including major depression and anxiety disorders. Almost 50% of the patients have a substance abuse problem. They experience social problems, such as long-term unemployment, poverty and homelessness. The most common symptoms that patients have are auditory hallucinations, paranoid behaviour, delusions, and disorder in speech and thinking. As this condition progresses it leads to social degradation or isolation. A diagnosis is usually based on observed behaviour and patients reports.

As commonly thought schizophrenia does not imply a split personality, or a multiple personality disorder, rather, the term Schizophrenia means a ‘splitting of mental functions’, so named because of what the patient presents.

Dyslexia (Tare Zameen Par)

The movie ‘Tare Zameen Par’ was a huge hit due to its tear jerking portrayal of a child battling Dyslexia. The movie shows how Darsheel Safary, the protagonist of the movie, struggles with the ridicule he faces for behaving in a manner completely normal to him.

Dyslexia , is also commonly known as Developmental reading disorder (DRD). It occurs when there is a problem in the Wernicke’s area, the lobe of the brain that helps to interpret language. Usually misdiagnosed as a vision problem, this condition is commonly misdiagnosed. It is a specific information processing problem that does not make the person’s intelligence decrease in any way. Children and individuals with this condition usually have normal to above average IQ. They are capable of grasping and solving the most complex problems. Dyslexic children need special care and attention, with regards to treating them and not making them feel left out. DRD may appear in combination with developmental writing disorder and developmental arithmetic disorder. Since all of these involve using symbols to convey information it is sometime hard for the patient to grasp. DRD is known to often run in the family.

In general, symptoms of DRD may include:

Difficulty determining the meaning of a simple sentence

Difficulty learning to recognize written words

Mental retardation (Koi Mil Gaya)

The movie revolved around a boy living and coping with mental retardation. Hritik Roshan portrays the role of the man with panache, and does justice to his role as a mentally challenged boy. So what is mental retardation?

Mental retardation refers to a condition which appears before adulthood. The characteristic symptoms of the condition are significantly impaired cognitive functioning and deficits in two or more adaptive behaviours.

Most people who suffer from this condition do not show any external symptoms. So the ‘typical appearance’ thought to be the landmark of this condition is no longer true.

Usually babies that are mentally retarded learn to sit up, crawl or walk later than their counterparts. Both adults and children with mental retardation may also exhibit some or all of the following symptoms:

Delays in speaking (oral language development)

Deficits in learning and memory skills

Lack of social inhibition

Difficulty with solving problem

Delays in the development of adaptive behaviors such as self-help or self-care skills

Mental retardation is no longer the politically correct term to be used for this condition, the term intellectual disability or intellectually challenged is now preferred.

Major depressive disorder (DEVDAS)

The movie Devdas has Shahrukh Khan depict a lovelorn, depressed and alcoholic man, who eventually dies of liver cirrhosis.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) or clinical depression is sadly a mental disorder which isn’t taken very seriously. The condition leads the person to believe that life is not worth living. A constant sense of doom surrounds the people suffering from this condition.

Clinically this condition is usually diagnosed by the patient’s own experiences and mental ability tests. The condition usually affects a person’s family and interpersonal relationships, it disrupts work and school life, sleeping and eating habits and the overall health of the person. It usually impacts the person’s wellbeing and may lead to the person to substance abuse and more often than not is linked with suicidal tendencies. Research suggests that the condition can be compared to chronic medical conditions such as diabetes.

Mental illness is not a bane or something to hide from; confronting and solving the problem is sometimes simpler that hiding or not facing the problem head on.

Always remember problems are not stop signs they are guidelines- Robert H. Schuller

“I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music,” Albert Einstein once said. And many of our Bollywood stars, who wake up to a tune and sleep to one, would agree. Music is the essential stressbuster for many Bollywood stars, trying to cope with erratic shooting schedules, hectic travel and long hours under the arclights, not to mention the unrelenting paparazzi gaze.

The tastes are eclectic. If Amitabh Bachchan’s tastes range from classical to the more contemporary Coke Studio, son Abhishek likes Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan; Bipasha Basu loves it all, soft rock and Sufi both; Priyanka Chopra loves old Hindi film music as does Sonu Sood; and Shahid Kapoor favours progressive house music. And it stays with them – in the gym, in the car or during a make-up session.

As Bipasha put it, “music has to be a part of an actor’s life because it’s too taxing a profession”. ”If I am stressed, I tell my manager, ‘Give me 30 minutes. I’ll just go and work out and listen to my favourite music.’ When I take a massage and listen to some soothing music, I get very energetic,” Bipasha told IANS. ”From the time I wake up, music stays with me. My alarm is always my favourite song, and then right from the time I start brushing my teeth, I hear all kinds of music according to my mood. ”My driver, my spot boys get fed up of my music. Right from the vanity van to my car to my house to my terrace, music follows me,” said the 33-year-old, who especially loves soft rock, Irish bands and Sufi songs.

At 69, veteran star Amitabh enjoys listening to classical and instrumental music. He often mentions on his blog his love for traditional music and how he likes tuning into evergreen melodies before he slips into bed. But he also enjoys new age, fusion music from Pakistan’s Coke Studio during his make-up sessions. Son Abhishek listens international musicians like Tom Petty, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Hendrix and David Guetta while driving – and he listens to it all at top volume.

Former beauty queen Neha Dhupia admits music either makes or breaks her mood each day. ”Music defines my day. The first song that I listen to at the start of the day sets the mood for me. It defines my night and helps me decide if I want to go out,” said Neha, who listens to a lot of rock bands, contemporary pop as much as Bollywood music and old classics.

Bollywood’s new kid on the block Parineeti Chopra is a trained singer like her cousin Priyanka. ”Music is my stressbuster. I enjoy listening to music, but there is no specific kind of music that makes my mood. I listen to all kinds of music. I am a trained singer; so music certainly keeps me going,” said Parineeti.

Priyanka, who recently returned from the US after working on her debut music album, loves tuning into house, hip-hop and pop music. She gets her dose of Bollywood music as well and wakes up many mornings to evergreen numbers by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

Priyanka’s rumoured former beau and now her “Teri Meri Kahaani” co-star Shahid Kapoor is as much a music fanatic. ”Music is a part of my life… I can’t do without that. Music keeps us all going,” Shahid, who prefers progressive house music, told IANS. Actor Sonu Sood is reserved in his choice. ”I am a great fan of R.D. Burman; so I still listen to his songs; I love the melodies he gave in films like ‘Ijaazat’, ‘Masoom’ and ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’,” he said.

Progeria, autism, dyslexia, Alzheimer’s, Asperger syndrome — movies on these rare diseases would have typically been the themes of documentaries until a few years ago. But not any more. Bollywood, so associated with escapist fare, is opening its heart and investing money in creating awareness about such diseases through commercial scripts, with successful stars and effective marketing. Filmmaker Anurag Basu’s upcoming “Barfi!” is a case in point. At its heart, the movie is said to be a romantic comedy, but the story is woven around how love blooms between a deaf, mute yet happy-go-lucky man essayed by Ranbir Kapoor, and an autistic girl, played by Priyanka Chopra.

Talking about the film, Ranbir said: “It’s about two dysfunctional people who bond together in the nicest of relationships, one that is sweet, touching and heart-warming. “Most Bollywood products in the past showcased the visually and physically challenged as well as the deaf as comical or pitiable characters except films like “Koshish”. But the approach, treatment and prominence to the characters have undergone a mature change over the years. In 2003, “Koi… Mil Gaya” showcased Hrithik Roshan in the role of a developmentally disabled man, while Aparna Sen’s National award-winning film “15 Park Avenue” put the spotlight on schizophrenia.

Konkona Sen Sharma, as the schizophrenic Meethi in “15 Park Avenue”, drove the complexities of the disease with ease to the audience’s heart. The film was in English. ”That’s because it deals with schizophrenia and we need a more discerning audience,” Sen had told IANS earlier. Nevertheless, she made sure all the nitty-gritty were taken care of before setting out to entertain viewers. ”We know someone very close to us who’s schizophrenic… a very close relative. So Konkona got to study the traits very carefully. We also had professional medical assistance to get the nuances right. But ultimately after getting all the details right I made sure it was a human interest story,” said Sen.

Schizophrenia was also highlighted with Arshad Warsi in “Krazzy 4″, but not so effectively. Another disease, Alzheimer’s, which affects memory, thinking and behaviour, was brought alive on screen by Kajol in “U Me Aur Hum” and by megastar Amitabh Bachchan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Black”. The latter also proved to be an inspirational story for the deaf and blind, with Rani Mukerji in the role of a girl, who overcomes her disabilities with the help of her teacher, and shines academically. In 2007, Aamir Khan’s directorial debut “Taare Zameen Par” narrated the problems faced by an eight-year-old boy suffering from dyslexia, a learning disability. The heartwarming movie was a window to worried parents, who push their children to achieve academic excellence without trying to understand their problems.

The film was not only a huge commercial hit, it also spread the word and many parents learnt an important lesson from it. ”Taare Zameen Par” was instrumental in bringing about a shift in the mindset for films dealing with diseases, says film critic Omar Qureshi. ”Earlier, Bollywood films used to show how characters who used to behave strange due to some ailment were slapped or mocked at. ‘Taare…’ and ‘Koi… Mil Gaya’ changed that a lot,” he said. ”Years back, in 1974, there was a Mehmood movie ‘Kunwara Baap’. It moved everyone to tears with the story on polio vaccination. What a forward vision he had back then. But it’s great to see how mainstream heroes are taking up roles creating awareness about diseases,” Qureshi told IANS.

In 2008, viewers got a taste of amnesia on screen. Aamir Khan was shown as a patient of amnesia, a state of short-term memory span, in the superhit film “Ghajini”. The following year, action film “Luck” saw heartthrob Imran Khan with dextrocardia, a rare medical condition in which a person is born with his heart on the right side. The same year, Amitabh gave a noteworthy performance as Auro, an innocent child suffering from progeria in “Paa”. Progeria causes premature ageing among children and is a rare disease; so the movie managed to create a buzz about it across the country. The year 2010 saw superstar Shah Rukh Khan as Rizwan Khan suffering from Asperger syndrome, which causes difficulty in social interaction. Later, Hrithik essayed a paraplegic, who appeals for euthanasia in Bhansali’s “Guzaarish”.

Although the jury is out on the script, dialogues and plot of this flick there are no complaints about how awesome the characters look. Read on to find out how the actors got into shape for this action heist flick.

The latest movie from the Don franchise stable is out and the movie sees a leaner, meaner and not to mention a fitter cast. Leading the pack is the bad man Shahrukh Khan himself. His partners in crime Boman Irani and Kunal Kapoor too sport a different look. While Kapoor had been a fitness freak, it is Irani who it looks has spent considerable time in the gym. The female brigade is lead by Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta – both sporting a toned look especially Priyanka who plays a police officer in the film and had to do some heavy duty stunts herself.

SRK: Since Don 2 is a sequel it required everything on a bigger scale. For Shahrukh it meant more hours in the gym to maintain the lean frame for Don 2 and taking care of his bodysuit look for Ra.One as both the films were shot simultaneously. Don 2 required Shahrukh Khan to not just be fit but to have a tough, athletic and lean body something that can help him do high-intensity stunt sequences effortlessly. His trainer of 10 years, Prashant Sawant, helped him achieve that with extensive weight training along with a high-protein diet that helps build muscle mass.

Boman Irani: Shahrukh’s trainer Prashant Sawant is also responsible for the new look Boman Irani is sporting in the film. The rigorous training schedule helped Irani lose quite a bit of weight. The actor also hit the gym to build muscles to look tough. He’s doing almost two hours of cardio, weights and circuit training with a diet designed by Prashant’s wife Maya (also a fitness instructor). Boman’s diet is a high-protein one with little carbohydrates and absolutely none after evening with lots of protein shakes,”

Priyanka Chopra: Playing Roma required Priyanka to do some heavy duty stunts. As she opted to do all her action sequence by herself Priyanka trained for two months before getting into the action mode. Not a gym regular Priyanka chose yoga to keep her fit and maintain the figure. Her idea to stay healthy and not too lean makes her maintain her perfect figure. Priyanka prefers home cooked food and her diet included chapatti, vegetables, soups, salads, little rice, dal and fruits. To maintain her skin Priyanka’s intake of juice and water is very high.

Lara Dutta: The former Miss Universe has always been a fitness freak and the mother-to-be is about to release a Yoga DVD for pregnant women. For Lara, it has never been about following a fitness trend. She works out five days a week — combining cardio, strength training and yoga. Being a vegetarian, she eats lots of fruits and veggies, takes in good quality vegetable protein, drinks lots of water and meditates frequently.

Kunal Kapoor: The lanky lad is an absolute fitness freak and has been into alternative fitness regimes for a long time now. He loves functional training, scuba diving and the great outdoors in general. He hits the gym all right but prefers to maintain his lean, mean and tall look instead of bulking up. He doesn’t drink or smoke and is a pure vegetarian to boot. The actor who was criticized a little for being too skinny in his Rang De Basanti days but now thin is in and we see men all over the country working out for that ripped look.
