Yuvi’s fight with cancer was one of the top stories in the field of sports while the fit Saina Nehwal and Gagan Narang brought us accolades in the Olympics. Presenting the fit and healthy celebs from 2012 who fought flab, sloth, disease and emerged victorious (in nor particular order):</p>
<p><strong>Yuvraj Singh</strong>: Life can be kind and cruel in equal measure as star cricketer Yuvraj Singh found out. 8 months after helping the nation lift the Cricket World Cup he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor . Not one to give up he battled his way through three rounds of chemotherapy and even made his way back into the Indian team. A self-confessed foodie she opened up in a recent interview about her dietary amendments that helped her lose those extra pounds. She gives all the credit to her mother who makes her follow a strict diet regime. A self-confessed foodie she gives in to her indulgence for chocolate and ice-cream from time to time.</p>
<p>She’s a big fan of the low-carb high protein diet and the 5 meals a day theory. We present her daily dietary chart:</p>
<p>Breakfast: Oatmeal and fruits</p>
<p>Noon snack: Brown bread with egg whites and protein shake</p>
<p>Lunch:  Dal, veggies, roti and grilled chicken or fish</p>
<p>Evening Snack: Brown bread with egg whites</p>
<p>Dinner: Soup, salad, grilled chicken or fish</p>
<p>For in-between snacks she munches on dry fruits and carries fruits while she is travelling to avoid hunger pangs.</p>
<p>Her exercise regime consists of everything including weight training, yoga and pilates. When she gets the time she plays squash and or swims. She followed this routine for a year and lost 30 kg.</p>
<p>Although now she can afford to eat whatever her heart desires she still sticks to a strict regime, indulging only occasionally. She starts her day with a tall glass of lukewarm water and follows it up with another glass of warm honey and lime water. She also drinks a lot of fluids throughout the day like coconut water, cucumber juice and buttermilk.  </p>

<p>Manish Advilkar, a professional bodybuilder and fitness trainer who has trained Salman for over six years says that the actor takes his regime very seriously. While most people assume that he only focusses on weights the truth is the actor has a very tough cardio-vascular regime as well.</p>
<p>He even cycles from Bandra to Panvel occasionally, an astonishing 50 km. It takes him three hours and it’s a distance even professional athletes baulk at. He is actually known to do 1000 push-ups or 2000 sit-ups a day!</p>
<p>According to another insider, his workouts are usually two hours long and always includes one hour of cardio. When he does strength training, he concentrates on two body parts on any particular day – biceps, triceps, legs, back or shoulders. Of course we can’t forget the actor’s rock hard abs – he actually works very hard to keep them in shape. He does 500 crunches, pull-ups and chin-ups every day!</p>
<p>What’s really interesting is the fact that Salman Khan’s workout regime is as old-school as you can get and definitely something you shouldn’t try to ape on your first trip to the gym. It takes time and patience to build up fitness and endurance levels like Salman’s. He didn’t get his strength and stamina in a day and it’s a testament to years of hard work.</p>
<p><strong>What does Salman Khan eat?</strong></p>
<p>The most important thing is what he <em>doesn’t</em> eat and that’s junk food. The actor steers clear of all junk food and even tries to avoid synthesised food as far as possible. He eats normal food like meats, veggies and fruits. He gets the majority of his carbs from pulses. One interesting aspect of his diet is the fact that he loads up on lots of protein (chicken, egg whites and fish) which are absolutely essential to repair muscle damage. He also avoids anything sugary. Of all the celebrity diets or fitness regimes we’ve witnessed Salman’s is the one that has the least frills. <p>Everyone’s raving about the movie Ishaqzaade. It&#8217;s an open secret that the male lead Arjun Kapoor lost a lot of weight &#8211; 50 kg in the past 4 years to be exact. According to Kapoor, the first thing people need to realise is that it’s not going to happen overnight. If you need to lose a lot of weight, there is no quick fix. In fact, it’s possible to lose 10 kg in a month but that’s unhealthy because it leads to muscle loss and a host of other problems and one ends up piling up those pounds again. </p>
<p><strong>Beginner’s Blues</strong></p>
<p>When one is overweight, their body responds quickly to any kind of physical activity and Arjun too lost 10 kg in his first month. This usually happens due to water loss.  The problem is it gives the person a false sense of success and they tend to binge and gain all that weight quickly. The Kapoor lad too went through the same experience, his weight kept vaccilating. It’s hard to stick to any weight loss regime and the early days are the toughest.</p>
<p><strong>Dietary amendment</strong></p>
<p>The actor also explained how it&#8217;s extremely important to eat right when one&#8217;s on a weight loss regime. In his binge eating days he’d wolf down three burgers in one go and wash it down with a milk-shake. However, he knew it was impossible to lose weight without following a proper regimen.</p>
<p>So what did Arjun Kapoor do? He gave up all junk food, swapped rice for quinoa, a South American grain which is a good source of protein. He’d load up on chicken as well. His day usually started with a toast and 4-6 egg whites with an egg yolk and he had a protein shake after working out. Lunch usually comprised of <em>roti</em>, <em>sabzi</em>, <em>dal</em> and chicken. Understandably he preferred <em>bajra roti</em> to <em>atta roti </em>because they’re more filling and have higher fibre content. For dinner, he’d only have protein like fish or chicken and stayed away from carbs. He also avoided all sweets and drank lots of black coffee instead.</p>
<p><strong>The last lap</strong></p>

To get over the hump, he went for the Crossfit regime, which helped him knock off the last 5 kg. The CrossFit regime is a high-intensity, core-conditioning workout which usually lasts for 20 minutes.  &#8221;When you stabilise yourself with your core, you can do any amount of lifting you want.&#8221; he said. CrossFit helps activate smaller muscles and another Bollywood actor who’s a fan of the CrossFit regime is Hrithik Roshan. </p>
<p> So as we can see, losing weight isn&#8217;t that hard; all one needs is  proper guidance, dietary control and motivation. If Arjun Kapoor can do it, so can you!</p>
