blood donationFor rare blood groups finding a donor during emergencies can be daunting. The Indian Blood Banks Society (IBBS) took a major step to decrease the difficulties. The IBBS recently launched a website that would help you contact a donor ASAP and also allows potential donors to sign up. It will also help people find the nearest blood donors and cut down on the time needed to find a donor.

The site is called http://indianbloodbank.com/ and it was officially launched by the Minister for Revenue Adoor Prakash at a function on Sunday. While lauding the IBBS’ efforts Mr Prakash said, society needs more people who set an example through humanitarian deeds.

According to project manager,  Sooraj P. Suresh the IBBS has been working on this project for some time now and has a database of about 10,000 people on the website. The portal directs the users to register as a donor and help search for a donor too. The facility also finds the nearest blood donors. The caller can find the profile of the donor with their contact details and can reach out by either sending an SMS, an e-mail or making a toll-free call by clicking on the options.
