Yuvraj Singh is suffering from Mediastinal germ cell seminoma. Mediastinal indicates that the cancer is present in the chest cavity between his lungs. Seminoma indicates the variant of germ cell cancer which is very sensitive to chemotherapy. Germ cell tumours are caused by germ cells moving abnormally during the growth of the embryo or the foetus. It is not caused by external factors like smoking, drinking, environment etc. Germ cells usually migrate to areas like the thorax (chest cavity) and abdomen while descending from the head portion of the foetus to the testicles.
Since Yuvraj fortunately is still in stage I, the chances of his recovery are very good. A few cycles of chemotherapy is the treatment of choice in this case. 
He is currently being treated by Dr Lawrence H Einhorn, who is famous for treating cyclist Lance Armstrong, who won an astonishing seven consecutive Tour de France races after surviving testicular cancer. Yuvraj Singh is drawing his inspiration from Lance Armstrong’s book – ‘It’s not about the bike’.
