Satyamev Jayate has been stepping on toes ever since the show aired. The fourth episode on medical malpractice didn’t go down too well with medical community. An umbrella body of 21 medical institutions asked Bollywood star Aamir Khan to apologize for accusing doctors of malpractices in his TV talk show “Satyamev Jayate”. Medscape India said the representation of malpractices supposedly perpetrated by doctors was “rather sad” and Aamir Khan should offer his apologies. ”It is rather sad that doctors should be made the object of such shameless, unilateral scrutiny,” Himanshu Mehta, co-founder and advisor to Medscape India, said.
After highlighting social issues affecting Indian society, Aamir Khan, in the fourth episode of his show, turned the spotlight on healthcare and malpractices in the medical profession. He highlighted unethical practices, corruption and scandalous revelations in medical treatment. ”Aamir Khan is my favourite actor and he should stick to making films,” said another doctor, Sunita Dube, president of Medscape.
“Surprisingly, no doctors’ body has spoken against Aamir yet. We need to stand united against such blatant lies. We are going to write a scathing letter demanding an apology from him,” Dube said. Medscape pointed out that doctors were subjected to assault without any fault and many people didn’t understand the pressures of the profession. ”Where is Aamir Khan when doctors are assaulted? Where is he when we give free treatment to the needy?” asked Kishore Taori, president of the Maharashtra Medical Council that is associated with Medscape.

The episode on medical malpractice seems to have had an impact with five Rajasthan doctors getting booked for granting recognition to nursing colleges without proper facilities. The show has brought to fore issues like child sex abuse and female foeticide, not your usual dinner table chatter and has actually forced various state governments get their act together. The Haryana government has announced that pregnant women will have to submit a photocopy of their identification proof at ultrasound centres as a pre-condition for undergoing the test and there are plans to embed observer chips in ultrasound machines. Aamir Khan also met Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot to discuss the female foeticide situation in the state and convinced him that infanticide cases should be fast-tracked in special court. In MP, 65 MTP (medical termination of pregnancy) licences were suspended because they hadn’t submitted the necessary documents. Recently the child sex abuse bill was also passed in Parliament to protect under 18s from sexual predators.

I saw this program first time today and was influenced too much. we should approach states govt. for welfare of old age person who don’t get proper care from there children whom they always support from their toddler age till they achieve their position with lots of expectation . old age person not need anything more from there children only they need smile on the face of there children and his companionship

if anyone has doctor in family, i dont need to give u explanation why amir khan should apologize, this is a minor hardworking community,this their hardwork that all we r standing happily even after having so many diseases(DM,HTN)
with due respect before saying anything about this profession u should talk about leaders,police,civil,lawyers. u know only few doctors are paid what they deserve to be,. even a labouer is at home by evening, but a doctor not. i m very hurt that i m a doctor in a country where people discuss about cancelling their doctors license.

Absolutely not. why do doctors want an apology when the issue is discussed in general. and mind you all that there were doctors n also people from medical fraternity with facts. the whole issue has to be taken in a positive manner and contribute something to the society. Yes doctors you would be giving free service sometimes but that does not mean that you are an exception in front of public when something illegal happens from your side. With great powers comes great responsibility not great honours
AAMIR need not apolise any one for for bringing out the truth with facts and figure. The show has never pointed to any one in particular rather giving a general practice in the society. The show is just an input, by digging into the truth even more cruel facts can be brought out. The purpose is not on digging into it, rather finding a way out with a workable solution to the society make sense and that is only possible when everyone determines and demands for it. with the 1st step, can we ask doctors prescribing generic medicines? lets do and see may be after 100th when we ask , the doctor will say yes to it.
