A woman from Budgam became the first Kashmiri to ever give birth to quintuplets. In fact, only four babies had been confirmed by the ultrasonography and the fifth came as a surprise.

The 28-year-old mother from the Larkipora village in central Kashmir had earlier had two miscarriages. She had a son. Of the five of them three were brothers and two sisters. All the infants are doing well though one of them had to be resuscitated. “The radiologist had had been able to trace only four babies, the fifth came as a surprise to us,” head of anaesthesia, Dr. Masood Rasheed, said. Four of the five babies were born with normal weight and only one weighed below 2 kg . It’s extremely rare for all the babies to survive in case of multiple-births.
