Hi. Am a late entrant so got to see this quite late. But coudn't ressit writing. First of all, its not that Bollywood can't produce an Oscarish show. Its a huge industry so am sure it can afford a few crores to put up a great show & a great stage. Its just that the flavors and the formats are very different. Indian cinema / Bollywood has its own charm which is a delight for its viewers. Here award shows are all about song and dance, exactly like its movies. Look at 3 Idiots , the songs were as great as the story itself. Oscars is sober & stylish, and there is a lot of hype around the compere. Also, in India watching Oscars is aspirational but a lot of them wouldn't watch it necessarily. They would watch Filmfare though, given its familiar flavour. While this is one side, its also a fact that India is going through a transition as far as cinema is concerned. Looks have improved drastically, and have started to look firang (ZNMD, Ra-One etc have a distinct look). So, the award shows are also going to see a huge shift. Especially at a time when a lot of Hollywood celebs and producers and directors are showing a lot of interest in Bollywood. BTW, in the last Oscar last month, Anil Ambani was a special guest of Spielberg since they produced a few films together. A sign of things to come. Cheerz! Amjad
