It seems that the SVR Ruia Government General Hospital is still not off the hook. In a shocking incident five more babies died in the children’s ward of  the hospital on Sunday, taking the toll to 14 in the last week. Hospital Superintendent J Veeraswamy said one of the babies was under-weight, while the two others succumbed to brain infection and lack of nutrition. He ruled out any negligence on part of the medical faculty at the hospital. An inquiry committee ruled out medical negligence.

Three babies had died on August 17 while six infants died on August 15. The hospital caters to the needs of patients from four Rayalaseema and Nellore districts.

Parents however complain that senior docs are not present on Sundays and holidays. They also complained that many senior docs have private practices.

Criticising the indifferent attitude of the hospital authorities, CPI leader K Narayana demanded that the government take immediate steps to alleviate the problems of the parents. However,

Officials said that about 200 children with 75% of them suffering from serious ailments were brought to the ward every day.
