The state record says that 22-year old Niveditha passed away from swine flu but there are some inconsistencies in the report. The PG student from VIllupuram developed a high fever on March 30 and was taken to the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences on April 2 for treatment. She exhibited symptoms of swine flu and her swab was sent to JIPMER. However even before the swab results came out she was administered the Tamiflu on the suspicion that she had the disease.
After this, she was brought to a private hospital in Chennai on ventilator because she had developed serious respiratory complications. Her test results from Pondicherry indicated she was H1N1 positive. The doctors at the hospital treated her for swine flu but sent in a swab to the King Institute to double check which tested negative. According to a health official, “They went ahead and treated her on the assumption that she had the disease, but her respiratory condition worsened and she passed away on Monday (April 16),”
