Lemon and its health benefits

Summer’s here! What is the one drink you want the most when you are out in the hot sun? We bet it is the good old home-made lemonade for most people. Apart from being a great thirst quencher, it also has a host of other health benefits.

Lemon is a rich source of Vitamin C. It also contains vitamins like vitamin B, riboflavin and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium. It helps with digestive problems when taken with hot water. It helps in cases of heartburn, worms, nausea and constipation. It helps the liver produce more bile and aids in better digestion.

It acts as a natural skin antiseptic. It helps prevent acne and the scars due to acne. Due to its anti-oxidant properties, it is a good anti-ageing remedy. The lemon has astringent properties and can help control bleeding from gums. It has anti-bacterial properties and can help relieve colds and sore throat.

Starting every morning with a few drops of lemon added to lukewarm water and honey is known to help with weight loss.

In people with heart problems, lime can help owing to its high potassium content.

    Besides lemon juice, please drink lemon tea a cup a day. That will control your BP and help digestion. It keeps cold away. My son and I have personally experienced the benefits having a cup of lemon tea a day. A cup of strong lemon tea without sugar stops instantly dysentery.
