 What do the abdominal muscle do?

  • They provide support and stability to your spine. This decreases the amount of stress on your lower back.
  • The abs include the ‘rectus abdominus’ or the upper abs, the ‘side obliques’ and the ‘transverse abdominis’ or the lower abs.
  • Working together these muscles help you perform movements such as bending forwards and sideways.
  • The  muscle important for washboard abs is the ‘transverse abdominus’.
