Skull-cigarettesQuit smoking or die. It’s as simple as that. The harmful effects of smoking are well known. Cigarettes contain many carcinogens and smoking is one of the major causes of cancer for active and passive smokers. It is our duty to kick the butt not only for our own well-being but for people in the vicinity who are inhaling second-hand smoke. Smoking has no moral defence and it is our responsibility to ensure that we stop harming ourselves and our loved ones.

The decision to quit smoking is the most important decision of you life. It is not easy by any means but it can be done. Think about the following points before we get to the action plan:

  1. What was your reason of starting to smoke, the first time ever?
  2. How many cigarettes do you smoke in a day?
  3. When are the times when you feel the urge to smoke?
  4. Where do you buy your usual stock of cigarettes from?
  5. Do you smoke alone or with company?
  6. Do your family/ loved ones know you smoke?

The Quit Smoking Campaign

  1. Reduce the number of cigarettes to absolute necessities (the numbers and times can be derived from question 2 & 3 above).
  2. The urge to smoke is usually after a meal or a stressful situation. When your system gets its daily prescribed dose, it gets tuned to the number of nicotine doses. The other times when you would smoke are usually excuses.
  3. Create a proper ‘quit smoking’ plan. Instead of suddenly cutting off entirely one fine day, make a plan to reduce gradually – from two packets to one packet in the first 15 days, from one packet to around five in the next 15 and so on.
  4. Let people around you know that you’re trying to quit (the list of people as derived from questions 4,5 & 6 above). Letting your friends, family (in case they know) and even your regular paanwala (seller) about your decision to quit smoking is a good idea if you don’t trust yourself. They can keep a tab on your impulses.
  5. Ditch your usual smoking-friends ring their smoke breaks. Don’t try to be brave by being an observer in your group. You can always catch up with chit-chat with the same group later.
  6. You might have started smoking as a habit as a result of peer pressure, to help cope with some stress or to experience something exciting. Talk yourself out of the core reason for starting to smoke.
  7. You can try a nicotine substitute; some even try chewing gum, mint, chocolate or food (although that can be addictive too). A dummy mint cigarette often acts as a psychological comfort.
  8. Nicotine curbs hunger by constantly releasing stored fats and sugar into blood. So, when you are trying to quit, you should have more frequent, small meals so that the hunger doesn’t add to the withdrawal symptoms.
  9. Nicotine is alkaloid. To counteract this, you should drink acidic juices for the first 3-4 days. This will help you get nicotine out of your system.
  10. Reward yourself after every milestone -maybe every 15 days or a month. Remember the reward cannot be a pack of cigarettes!

What to expect

  1. Withdrawal – symptoms like headaches, stomach cramps, parched throat, even nausea can occur during the withdrawal phase. Consult your physician to deal with severe symptoms.
  2. Craving – the urge to smoke might be overpowering. An effective distraction and a good support system will help you get through this phase.
  3. Mood changes – the alterations you are making in your system cause many physical and hence emotional changes. Emotional symptoms may include irritability, restlessness, anxiety pangs and distress.
  4. Change of mind – giving up is always easier than holding on. Trust your decision. It is definitely one of the better ones.

So this World Cancer Day take a pledge to kick the butt, not only for yourself but for all your loved ones. Smoking is not cool and you know it.

Its the fucking thing that its dengarous that makes kids start smoking these days, why doesn’t anyone know? Posting disgusting picks and stuff only makes the smoker feel worse about it, and seeing that SMOKING KILLS, it all makes them just feel worse, so it should just all be stopped

If you don’t like what’s on the shelf, don’t take it off the shelf. In other words, if you hate smoking, don’t date skmeors. That’s just common sense. Sounds like we’re lacking some.

wow that’s a hard spot cause you don’t want to start a fight but you do need to stick up for your rights. so id go to the aatmprent first and tell them that your getting their smoke coming into your aatmprent and you feel as if you shouldn’t have to close your windows because of them but that something needs to be done about this. going to the aatmprent mangers first will get you the respect from them for coming to them before starting a feud with the neighbors. besides its easier on you if the aatmprent complex takes care of it for you. if that doesn’t work then id talk to the people below.

re “The decision to quit smoking is the most important decision of you life”.

More to the point, each decision to ignite an addictive cancer stick and then inhale the carcinogens is probably the worst decision any individual makes during most of the days of their lives. And the initial decision to light up the first cigarette and become addicted in the first place was probably the single worst decision any smoker is ever likely to make over the course of their entire life.

Parents need to give their children better decision making powers, or more people are going to be sucked into a life of unnecessary health risks for themselves and those around them.

Meanwhile, smokers, every decision you face today to light up or not is an important one. Please think before you act and do not behave like an addicted automaton. You can be better than that.

I really had wanted to quit so I was paying close attention to what he said even though I didn’tt feel like anything was really happening until . he said your arm will slowly raise and you won’t be able to put it down. I could see and feel everything and my arm started to raise it freaked me the hell out! And I guess I came out of the trance. I let him finish his thing but I was dying to leave. Sir, I am smoking since 1974 and still curse my cousin who gave me this habit. Though I call it a habit but in my case it is not so even after 38 years. I switched over to self-roll cigretes twenty five years back and since then I really enjoy the entire process of making and lighting. I smoke about 5 to 7 cignrates a day. Many a time I just skip my routine and have also left smoking for a few months. Now I have again started one and a half year ago after reitrement. Moderation is the key of enjoyment and excess is bad. So my advice is do every thing in a limit.

I hate smoking but it has cmobee a regular part of my life, every time I try to quit I eat ALL the time. Now I am fat and smoke. Kind of stupid but the only time I feel satisfied while trying to quit smoking is when I have stuffed my self so full of food my stomach aches. I have read a bit on quiting somking and most refrences do not recomend the patch or gum. Is their a magic pill that will help me controll my urges for cigaretts as well as reduce my hunger?

Sorry, but your fighting a inslog battle. She will give up when she is willing n ready to, not coz u want her to. I agree, it is a disgusting habit. She is only killing herself, though it’s hard for you to watch her doing this as you love n care for her, it is her decision to make in the end. Tell her that it will effect her in the future and when she is wanting to have children, it will be harder for her to give up later the longer she holds onto the habit. All the best, n good luck;-)

Hi, hon My boyfriend tired to use one of these to quit but it didn’t work for him. The main pelrobm was that it was exactly the same as smoking for him (except for the smoke itself) you even stay addicted to nicotine! For him it just wasn’t a good transition. From my perspective it was really obnoxious for him to pull out his silly ecigarette and start puffing away in the mall, at a restaurant that kind of thing.Electric cigarettes aren’t safer, necessarily. The FDA has seized a few shipments of them and may ban them at any time. For the record, I think you’re right.

Adelaide , the FDA just got their butt’s kicked in a aeferdl court over them. And a aeferdl judge has to judge on if they are a danger to the public, and guess what happened! Stop drinking the Kool-aid girl, it is bad for you. Kool-aid also has an ingredient found in anti-freeze.

Threaten to leave him! Thats what my mom did and my dad was done within a week. Do some reescrah and see what smoking can do to him. There are plenty of graphic pictures. If he really cares about himself then he wouldn’t smoke. Obviously he doesn’t. He has asthma and smokes? Its like smoking a in car, in a garage with the windows rolled up. Someone once told me that her dad made her eat the cigarettes to make her stop. Has he been to the doctors lately? Maybe they can explain to him what will happen.

It depends on how often you use it. For an earavge smoker that would smoke about a pack a day like myself the battery usually last a day and a half or so. That is why I have two batteries. Also these types of batteries it is bad to charge too long and let stay uncharged for too long as well.

        Inaciolima September 24, 2012 at 10:32 am

I smoked for about 15 years. I tried the gum and the patch wtiohut success. Finally, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. This woke me up. Unfortunately, it took the threat of death to end my addiction. I have not smoked for a long time now and never will. I am feeling better and better all of the time. The point is, smoking is a mental thing. At least in my case it was. This video is awesome though. The key, like you said, is to re-program your mind.

        Amine March 20, 2012 at 9:38 am

two choices: take it or leave it. She is going to do what she wants to do. Only tsqueion is whether she wants to do you more than do dope. Only way to find out is to make her choose. If she makes the wrong’ choice at least you know now rather than later.

When you are a regular kmsoer your brain gets used to the nicotine. Once you quit it creates a chemical imbalance in your brain because you took away a chemical that has become part of the regular system. This most likely causes headaches, depression, and cravings. It is also why using gum and other methods that have some nicotine in them help people quit. It reduces the amount of nicotine slowly over time to help the brain functions learn to balance and operate without the nicotine. I would recommend just using one of those systems offered in drug stores or use your own such as going from say a pack a day to half a pack for a week then a quarter of a pack for the next week to 2 a day for a week to one a day for a week then one every other day for a week to none. This way the brain should balance out and he should be much healthier and happier! Good Luck!

As a smoker eymslf, I can honestly tell you that most people who truly enjoy smoking have absolutely no desire to quit. They know they should because there’s a good chance they could end up with emphysema, cancer, etc., but they’re not overly worried about it.Short of them being diagnosed with a smoking related disease (or, God forbid, YOU being diagnosed with a disease related to their smoking), nothing you tell them, no arguments you make about why smoking is bad, and no grotesque pictures of diseased lungs you show them will get them to stop smoking.Your parents are fully aware of what smoking is doing to them, but they’re not going to quit until they really want (or have) to.

Save your stems — make ISO hash with them! easy enough to find vuarois methods of doing this on google. just crucial that the isoadpadropyl alcohol conadtains nothing but the alcohol and water at as high aa0conadcenadtraadtion as you can find, and that you are extremely careful not to do this anyadwhere near any posadsible source of igniadtion and in an extremely well ventadiladateda0area.If you don’t fancy that then you can always cook the stems in oil, and use that to cook with. again easy to find instrucadtions on google — basic prinadciples are to heat the canadnabis to over 108c in the oil, but way under 180c (i tend to keep it at 150c or slightly lower), for aa0good 2 – 3a0hours, simplist way to cook with this is to just use packet brownie mix (remember to cook it at aa0lower temadperadature like 150c just for aa0slightly longer duradaadtion — disadregard the packet instructions)For both of these methods i’d use about an ounce of stems, if you are impaadtient then you can always add some trimadmings or bud as well. you could even use your kief but the best way to get the most out of that is to smokea0it!

I’ve been smoking for 6 years now and as snooeme who has tried every traditional and chemical method of trying to quit, I can say first hand that I don’t give a s**t what people on here say. I’m gonna try it. They have steps to work off the nicotine, though they aren’t advertised a quit smoking aid. they even have a no-nicotine cartridge. Water vapor isn’t that bad in your lungs. it’s not like drowning. it’s gas, not liquid. vapor. key word:VAPOR. Besides, even if it doesn’t help me quit, at least I won’t be putting rat poison or battery acid into my lungs anymore.A friend of mine got hers and she loves it. Her kids are much happier about the healthier exhale as well.

The only way to quit for good is to take the cigarettes you have on you and throw them all in the gabarge. Tell yourself you’ll never buy another pack and stick with it. Try to realize the money and good heath your wasting on such a nasty habit. You’ll do fine.

well I’m in the same boat as you. I am trying to lose about 40 poduns, and I thought I would quit smoking too, you know get healthy all at once. My experience has been this, but yours might be different: When I quit smoking I started PACKING on the poduns. It’s not that I ate more, I was still trying to eat healthy, exercise, etc. but for some reason I just started gaining weight when I quit. I went back to smoking, and I found that a cigarette takes the edge off my hunger, when I’m hungry, I light up. I know it’s not good, but I guess I will try to quit again when I’m skinny. Smoking is bad for you, but so is excess weight. It all depends on what is more important to you right now, and for me, losing weight is the most important goal in my life at this moment. So I smoke. And smoking hasn’t hurt my endurance any either. (it probably doesn’t HELP, but I don’t notice that I’m out of breath a lot)

      Jasmine March 8, 2012 at 8:01 am

Been there I stopped and ttersad 3 times. Reason, I enjoyed smoking. Now when I stopped enjoying it, I didn’t want to smoke anymore. I tried cold turkey twice, didn’t work. The last time I just tapered down by eliminating the enjoyment factor. How did I stop enjoying it well, I limited myself to smoking only outside. I changed to a light light brand of cigarettes. I no longer carried cigarettes with me or kept them where I could see them all the time. I kept a list of all the bad things related to smoking and a list of all the reasons I should quit and I read it several times a day. I made a point to look up pictures of black lungs related to smoking. Brother, that one will get ya. Especially when I had the urge to light up. I tried to add to this list on a daily basis. If I didn’t it wasn’t the end of the world. Nicotine is the problem here.Let’s start out by saying, you are addicted to nicotine. That’s one of the hardest legal addictions to break. There are negative and positive factors involved in breaking an addiction and habit. (Positive) It’s wonderful that not only do you have two important reasons for stopping, yourself and your son, but that you have support from those around you. (Negative)The bad thing is that your mother smokes and you live with her. To stop an addiction is hard, to stop when someone around you still participates in the source of your addiction adds negative impulses. You are going to want to smoke, pure and simple. Seeing someone else seemly enjoy a cigarette and just smelling the smoke will add to your discontent and you will want to smoke even more. You’ve got a hard battle a head of you with this one.Can you afford the patch? If so invest in this it will help relieve the withdrawal. Yes you are going to go through withdrawal. After a while of not smoking you will begin to cough up brown phylum. Don’t worry this is all part of the getting clean. The State of Georgia has online help with people that want to quit and I believe the feds might have something online also. Look it up. Check with your state online and see if they have a program to help, most states do. They are usually free. One thing for sure, YOU CAN DO IT but you’ve really got to WANT to do so.If all else fails, may I suggest; if you have the urge to smoke, stop and think first, weigh out all the factors, rationalize, compare what you have and what you want. Think think think before you act. This will slow some of your cravings down. I use to keep lifesavers on hand, this helped. You will have to find your own niche and I truly believe you will. You might lose a couple of battles but the main objective is to win the war. You sound as if this is war. Be strong and may the luck of the Irish go with you. Yeah, I m Irish.

Like many others I sokemd when I was young but managed to kick the habit before I was totally hooked, I was lucky and suffered no damage to my health. But for a close friend it was different, even though she was only a moderate smoker, her health was being seriously affected and getting worse with time. Now this is where I really sympathize with smokers. She like many smokers knew the dangers and had genuinely tried many different ways to quit smoking. She tried patches, hypnosis and read several books on the subject of quitting, nothing had worked. She always ended back at square one, knowing she needed to quit, but how, nothing had a lasting effect. That was until she tried Smoke Deter. So why am I telling this, because I played a small part in her success. You see I heard about Smoke Deter through my son, his best mate had quit smoking using Smoke Deter and I convinced my friend to try it. She was very skeptical, but I was so concerned about her health that I said that if it didn’t work I would pay for it, so she had nothing to lose and that convinced her. That was a year and five months ago, it worked and she is no longer a smoker, she has never has the urge to smoke since she quit using Smoke Deter, that’s a fact and it’s the only product she tried that she’s happy to tell others about.Smoke Deter is an herbal based liquid oral spray that is used 3 times a day, this is also supplemented with herbal pills which when combined is very effective at reducing your nicotine cravings. How quickly it works depends on the extent of your habit, it can work as quickly as 2 weeks or may take 3 months, regardless of the time, your health is worth the effort to kick your smoking habit. It’s worth noting that Smoke Deter is safe, natural and has no known side effect and no known drug interactions. It’s highly rated on many stop-smoking product review sites, often with genuine testimonials from people that have also kicked the smoking habit using it. So I am not the only one that knows Smoke Deter gets the desired result.Smoke Deter also offers a lifetime free membership support program, so you are never on your own, help is available 24 hours a day if you feel the need, like if your resolve is weakening. There is also a free Stop Smoking Relaxation Audio MP3 available, it might not be for everybody but my friend said it was definitely a help to her, it changed the way she thought about smoking. That’s what I like about Smoke Deter it changes your whole attitude to smoking, it works on your mind as well as your body. Unfortunately I’ve seen the damage smoking has done within my own family and also in my circle of friends, consequently I’m fully aware just how hard it is to stop smoking without some kind of help. I’ve seen first hand how Smoke Deter helped my friend quit smoking and so it’s not surprising she can’t say enough about it. So if this article brings Smoke Deter to your attention and as a result helps you kick the smoking habit, then for me writing about it has been worthwhile. So if you’ve been wondering if these quit smoking products work, well I guess some do and some don’t, but one that has my recommendation is Smoke Deter, I’ve personally seen it work when other methods failed. I’m happy to pass that information on so that others looking for a safe natural way to quit can try Smoke Deter if they wish.If you would like more helpful information on Smoke Deter or other free quit smoking information, you may like to visit the source link below It seems to confirm some of my comments and is dedicated to helping smokers improve their health, fitness and beat the smoking habit.

There is absolutely no way for you to make them quit elsuns they truly want to. Forcing them to quit or whining about it is just going to make them want to smoke even more. If they do decide to quit, be supportive, but other than that, there is basically nothing you can do. It’s their decision.

All you can do is knock on thier door and ask them if they can smoke out in front of thier apartment bcsuaee you don’t care for the smok wafting into your apartment. The worst they can say is no and you would be no worse off then you are now.
