July 1 is Doctor’s Day. It’s celebrated across India to honour legendary physician and the ex-CM of West Bengal Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. There is no other unacquainted person in the world that we’re more grateful to than doctors. In fact it’s hard to imagine a world without them. No other group of people are so defined by their profession. The prefix Dr seems to take precedence over everything else. The moment you hear it you’re filled with awe, knowing that this person in some capacity or another is capable of saving a person’s life.
We go to them when we are sick and they take care of us. We don’t think twice before troubling them with our ailments, sometimes even invading their personal space. The good docs take care of us, our parents, our children and other loved ones. We tell our lovers that we’d be dead without them; in a doc’s case that’s literally true!
Sadly, the profession has been getting a bad name recently what with the Satyamev Jayate episode highlighting medical malpractice and then the all-India IMA strike against the National Commission of Human Rights and Health Bill. But let’s not lose sight and remember that being a doctor is one of the greatest things you can do with your life
We from India.com Health are extremely grateful to all the doctors out there without whose tireless efforts, dedication, love, care, patience and support . Thank you docs, we love you!
PS – We think the NCHRH bill is downright stupid as well and will play right into the hands of bureaucrats and lead to red tape.
